BrakeTech AXIS Cobra™ Stainless Steel Rear Floating Rotor

BrakeTech AXIS™ Rear Floaters bring the floating technology used in our front rotors to select European and Japanese sportbikes. Designed for use with OE calipers and light to moderate rear brake use, these premium rear rotors combine a lightweight assembly with a full-floating design that accommodates thermal expansion.

The Direct-Link™ system transfers braking forces between the friction ring and center carrier through more than 800% greater load-transfer surface area than conventional floating rotor designs. Billet construction delivers a 10–35% weight reduction compared with the OE rotor, depending on the application.

Choosing the Right Rear Rotor

Choose a BrakeTech AXIS Rear Floater if you use the rear brake lightly to moderately, with the front brake providing most of your stopping power.

If you typically use the rear brake for approximately 40% or more of your braking, or rely on it as your primary brake, we strongly recommend a fixed-mount, monolithic one-piece rear rotor. Floating rear rotors are not our recommended choice for heavy rear brake use.

Installation & Clearance Notes

BrakeTech rear floaters require sufficient clearance for the floater buttons to extend through the back of the center carrier. Some OEM wheels do not provide this clearance; those applications require compatible aftermarket wheels. Confirm that the wheel provides the required mounting arrangement and backside button clearance before installation.

  • Rear full-floating rotors may require modification to the caliper bracket or wheel hub to provide clearance for the floater buttons or bobbins.
  • Japanese sportbike applications with Nissin calipers require a small amount of relieving of the OE caliper bracket to clear the floater button flange head.
  • On 4-hole mount models, the ABS sensor ring must be relieved around the bobbin area so the OE sensor ring sits flush on the carrier.
  • Requires post-type mounts; may not fit OEM wheels (aftermarket wheels only)
